Silver in the Wood gOriginally intended to tell you a story of a tamarind tree but beautifully adds stories after stories ofreed personal disputes and how these played role in changes in society This book is too ambitious to consider it as regular literary work It was bit tough to read and follow the story at the starting but radually become story at the starting but radually become and interesting Like English book I was using dictionary words iven in last pages It is ood novel The novel is all about a Tamarind tree And People Their Behaviors people their behaviors the tamarind tree in Nagercoil area The story of a Tamarind tree which stands while everything around it the people buildings everything fades away when at last the tree itself dies Though a bit innovative in the way it tells the stories connected with the tree in its form it is difficult to call it a novel The plot wanders too much and when you are at last empathizing with a character heshemostly he disappears Only the Tamarind Tree remains as a constant characterAnd I seriously can t understand why the translator didn t translate the title Puliyamarathin Kadhai into Story of a Tamarind Tree Those who know Tamil will find that the English title is irritatingly absurd With title I The Second Cure got to think that the book isoing to explain details and history of a tree The thought was very different and was fascinated on how the author is oing to take us through the history The book in the starting was as per the thought and through 3rd person explains about the tree It was completely dealing with tree the change in environment around it history around it the happenings around the tree and the changes that tree has seen through At the point where I was expecting the story to take some twist and turn it shifts completely and moves away from tree After the first uarter for the rest of the story it is not oru puliyamarathu kadhai rather it was oru puliyamaranthai kondra manidhargal kadhai translating to story of people who lead to death of the tree A big let down Though as a story it is ood to read to death of the tree A big let down Though as a story it is The Sorcerer's Apprentice good to read people thoughts it was like living in areas around nellai and resembles to some extent malgudi days of nellai for me not meeting the expectation was a big disappointment The poor rating could be owing to the expectation of myself when taking the book May be read the book and let me know if you felt the same or otherwise But according to me you can move on ignoring if you don t have a taste for nativity if u r a person from nellai belto for the book you will like for sure Read other reviews as well and decide ursel. 9788190467339 format Paperback and others 223 pages and has a text language like Tam. Felt I need to know about Asan something very very rare in literature Next is though on surface it seems simple it is highly structured with one story trails off to another one and after oing through few dense chapters an old character suddenly reappears I never could imagine that using only a tamarind tree one can cover character suddenly reappears I never could imagine that using only a tamarind tree one can cover turmoil such transformations such myths and emotions It is simply mind blowing I felt the loss of the tree at the end is painful "Than The Loss Of A " the loss of a s Life The Tamarind Tree In The tamarind tree in way symbolizes the city s life its culture and everything Its transformation is parallel to the city livesAt places it s uproariously funny at others it can move you to tears and at many places it is highly philosophical And throughout the complete novel it depicts natural lives at its purest most cruel and honest form I m still at awe to see all of these have been achieved within merely 210 pagesPS I have ordered all the translated work of Sundara Ramaswamy available by now Superb story flow without any break And very pleased to read the Tirunelveli slang One of the reatest Tamil Novels I have read Sundara Ramasamy broken all the barriers of a novel It had taken sometime before I realised he is into the main story A wonderful book and a World War Z. La guerra mondiale degli zombi great read for those who know Tamil What a perfect book to read in perfect time With all the current political dramasoing on and we with or without our knowledge playing different roles in it this book just shows how we are persuaded into such situation and helps one to compare enerations with the level of complicationsOru Puliyamarathin Kathai is a story centered around a tamarind tree that stood as a mute witness to the changes happened around it for enerations In the first half of the book the narrator narrates stories that he heard from his old companion who had mastered in art of story telling These stories range from the innocence of King of Travancore to latest modernization he was able to experience In the later part the narrator talks about the further changes and challenges in there that his friend fortunately failed to witnessThe writing appears uite hard for people who are not from the region but once you could follow it this is absolutely enjoyable with its dialects and metaphors Vivid descriptions of the landscapes personally helped me to understand where exactly the story took place and how the place was years ago And finally I read a book where I have known and been to every avenue mentioned in it Story telling takes a different form in it. ?்தர ராமசாமி Sundara Ramasamy This is the best favorite book isbn. ஒரு புளியமரத்தின் கதைHow many lives I ve Who Is Muhammad Ali? got to live before I finish this book The book covers a lot of vivid characters and their notions centered around a tamarind tree indifferently sustaining to the changes happening around it forenerations of varied perceptiveness With such richness in the local dialect phrases and metaphorical elements the experience is something delusionally wondrous I ve seen too many elements in other works of people but not at this level of profundity with surprising elements as well Lot of passages stumbled me to stop for a moment or even days rereading the same excerpts and looking at the wall smiling and pondering things on life Not every book does that THINGTHOUGH IT MIGHT SEEM OR SOUND AMBITIOUS IT S it might seem or sound ambitious it s best Tamil book I ve read till now as I haven t read many books in Tamil but still I hope it remains over my top collection This book is probably the original idea behind PaRanjith s Madras where the wall is an element of the story Oru Puliyamarathin Kadhai Story of a tamarind tree is about the symbolism of the tree to the larger society "Every tree would have it s own story especially those that became bus stops and landmarks "tree would have it s own story especially those that became bus stops and landmarks book keeps it as a reference to narrate the story of the area Starting with familiar characters from the earlier books we hear fables and hearsay stories When it actually moves on to the politics of the time between two shop owners the Indian freedom movement and the paid journalism the tree is just a reference It s significance changes every two chapter The dialect of Tirunelveli is uniue though the crass comments are a bit jarring A very well written book Unfortunately I had loved the earlier book so much that this came out below par The writing and the narrative is Don't Worry, Eat Cake: A Coloring Book to Help You Feel a Little Bit Better about Everything good especially blending well with the regional dialect and accent The story revolves around the one Tamarind tree that stood forenerations the people who came and went etc It is always an extreme pleasure when you suddenly discover a book that isi Indian novelii Originally written in a regional language Tamiliii Translated and published as Penguin Modern Classiciv Considered one of the masterpieces of Tamil Literature and therefore of Indian literature and still almost no review in GoodreadsThis is a wonderful novel I don t remember the last time I read something so purely Indian simple and yet deeply moving Though it seems the central character is Damodar Asan only few parts of the novel actually try to focus on him The side characters are drawn beautifully and seemed neat and still I never.
