The Path to Gay Rights jOnly a Novel was a well written enjoyable book which I highly recommendFor reviews from me and my sisters visit wwwshirereviewsblogspotcom I can t possibly give this book a high enough rating so I m going to rave about it for awhile bear with me Can Iust say how much I love Elizabeth And Rodney OH RODNEY swoons I ust fell head over heels in love with him And then there was Lavinia and Mercy and and the whole plot I mean this is the kind of book you talk about enthusiastically to your friends how you wish someone would write it because you d very much love it and read it and treasure your copy and Amy Dashwood wrote it The references to Jane Austen s books made me itch to go get my copies and reread them except that would have meant putting this book downD Okay I ll settle down tad and review it "Ahem Bookworm cleared her throat nervously But what was the difference in clearing ones nervously as opposed to "Bookworm cleared her throat nervously But what was the difference in clearing ones throat nervously as opposed to clearing it under normal circumstances cough cough Okay When Middle class Elizabeth Markette s Grandmother passes away she finds out that she is left well not penniless but close to it So she does what any girl who has read Jane Austen s novels would do she buys a ticket to England to become a governess Making accidental friends with Lavinia Sophia er let s ust say Lavinia on board ship she stays at their home until she is secured a position to two children And then she discovers life is not like a Jane Austen novel Sad violin music But then after much trial error and calamity things work out to a smashing finale I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who has a love for the classics and books with plenty of gorgeous dresses and hilarious conversation If you don t try this book you ll miss a good read My review Only a Novel begins in the late 1800s with Elizabeth Markette utterly alone and down to her last penny Obsessed although of course she would never admit it with Jane Austen she decides to use the last of her money to head to Europe and seek a ob as a governess After all the classic works of Jane Austen Charlotte Bront and Charles Dickens are proof that romance and adventure and eligible wealthy young bachelors abound in England right Things of course do not happen exactly as she hopes My sister read this book after I did and she made the comment that she felt like she was reading a book by a good friend who knew all the same inside okes she did That s exactly how I felt too Allusions to so many of my favorite classic books had me smiling and sometimes laughing out loud I think it was when she used the phrase no nonsense that I finally lost it and keeled over laughing Even so I have to say what I liked most about this book was The CharactersLavinia The Scatterbrained Slightly Eccentric Socialite charactersLavinia the scatterbrained slightly eccentric socialite definitely my favorite I think I was smiling on every page she was present Of course Rodney was a close a second Even if he was too Henry Tilney like to be a hero OhHenry was the hero of Northanger Abbey wasn t he Hahaha Ahem Another inside okeThis book is not written in the typical fashion of modern novels In fact I doubt I ve read any other book like it It was greatly refreshing though I understand it won t be everyone s cup of tea if you take my meaning The only downside to this book is that if you re not a Jane Austen fan you probably won t get half the okes and wonder why on earth this lady is mentioned so much especially at the beginning Sogo read Pride and Prejudice Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey before you read this book Or at the very least watch the movies From my first glimpse of it on s Preview achingly few pageswhich is a good thing I started to fall in love with Only a Novel and main character Elizabeth Her realness and relatability were delightful and gripping it was so easy to slip into her Elizabeth s shoes and follow her on her exciting adventureoh and what an adventureOrphaned with no one and no where to go with a very small inheritance Elizabeth Markette decides to do something she has always wished Go to England and become a governess well maybe not the governess part but to England she must go and seek her fortune like so many of her favorite literary heroinesand await her dashing Hero to come fall in love with her marry her rescuing her from what her life has becomeTo say the least things don t go as planned but the delightful Singing the Law journey along the way had me laughing and crying and falling in love with all of her characters From lovable Lavina to Rodney the stable hand and his little sisterher small charges and that toad in the gardenAmy Dashwood s sense of humor delighted me She is supremely witty and has a great knack at pulling out certainly literary references that enhance the readers delight atust the right places throughout the book I really cannot say enough wonderful things about this book but I fell in love with it and hope you will tooActually I can say one thing GO BUY ITCaution this book may cause you to laugh out loud while reading it and make people clamor for you to read what is so entirely witty and entertainin. Ten's novels It isn't But if we told you all the details surrounding that it would spoil the story so we'll leave the rest for you to find out.

Actions Speak Louder
Only a NovelFor the author s first "Novel I Was Astounded At "I was astounded at wonderful it was A must for Janeites What an adorable bookIt is soooooo cute I love it to pieces I mean it is modeled after Jane Austen s novels and written by one of my favorite bloggers so obviously it s perfect Elizabeth was a bitannoying at times but she was a good heroine complex enough to suit my needs and LADYLIKE Oh yes I can hear the gasps of astonishment issuing from the lips of every person reading this particular review A ladylike heroine I like a heroine with spunk but I am so fed up with supposedly strong heroines that a ladylike One Is A Breath Of is a breath of air And Rodney Oh My "WORD HE IS ADORABLE AND MERCY "HE IS ADORABLE And Mercy no less wonderful Also Lavinia I wasn t sure I would like her at first and even now my feelings towards her are a bit mixed but so far I think her a thoroughly good character And the kiddosa bit spoiled but fun nonetheless I Alchemic just want to hug all the charactersExcept Pendleton And evil waxed moustached Mr Boyce YuckEdit 2017 I want very much to write letters as entertaining as the one Lavinia writes First of all this book is awesome if only for the fact that I won it in a giveaway Yeah how awesome is that But I hate to admit that I won it last summer and haven t read it till this spring Pretty bad I knowAnyway another thing I wanted to mention is that I don t always know exactly what to make of budding writers I ve read several things from new self published authors and they ve been good and not so good I can t really say why I m a bit hesitant when reading stuff from self published authors but I am nonetheless I did wonder how Only a Novel would be writing style story plot etc however those fears were completely assuaged I am happy to announce that Miss Amy Dashwood did an amazingob on her book in all aspectsBesides all of that the protagonist of the story is a Jane Austen loving mistake making totally adorable character Elizabeth Markette She is so incredibly relatable to me in her wish to do things We Sell Drugs just like Austen s heroines would One line that really personified Elizabeth and stuck out to me was Elizabeth stuck her finger into Emma to mark her place and stared out over the water It was a romantic pose so she held it a little longer as she thoughtAmy Dashwood from here on outust referred to as Amy gave voice to a lot of those things we Janeites think but rarely express It honestly was Problem Solving in Data Structures Algorithms Using C++ just such a very fun light lovely book to readAnother thing our lovely authoress excelled at doing was keeping the romance so very Austen like I haven t read a single book of Austen s that has a kiss scene or any deep romantic actions outside of being very much in love To me that s one of the most beautiful things in Austen s books I never have to worry about one being appropriate or there being simply too much kissing hugging etcAmy helped all of us out by keeping it to the awesome minimum of none In the style of Jane Austen there was no kissing hugging etcHowever that doesn t mean there was no romance the romance though was sweet innocent andust the perfect fit for this bookI really loved Lavinia She was a spunky unorthodox entertaining sidekick Her completely waveringly unwavering friendship to Elizabeth ust really made the book completely and totally perfect view spoilerShe honestly reminded me of Elinor Dashwood at the point of her breakdown in tears over Mr Pickering Just a tad bit like Elinor hide spoiler I really did like this book The story was very good very sweet and it was very fun placing all the hints at various works of classic literature Lavinia was properly vexing and lovable Rodney was witty and charming Mercy was sweet and Elizabeth was properly Catherine Morland ish I really wanted to give it four stars but there were too many problems for me to do so in all good conscienceMy first issue was on the grammatical side Often times the sentences seemed rather clunky Most often I noticed this could be easily remedied by rearranging sentence parts using a pronoun instead of a name or adding in a commaMy second problem was that the characters seemed from time to time to speak in a manner a little too old fashioned for the era in which the story takes place 1880 s This was especially true for Elizabeth the main character who was from the US While I cannot say for certain about people of the UK in that time period a girl of the US no matter who she read and how much she read would speak in a custom normal to her surroundings and eraThird I found the the constant book uoting and referencing in the first half of this book to be a bit much I do realize that these actions were key to some of the characters and the overall story line but in the first half there was so much of this it started to become tiring Thankfully the second half of the book had a much acceptable amount of uoting and referencingAlso I would like to have seen the time between Elizabeth s decision to go to England and her departure expanded upon I m sure there must have been some emotional conflicts in the selling of her childhood home and all the things with wh. Only a Novel chronicles a year in the life of Elizabeth Markette who is forced to earn her own living after the death of her grandmother She ,

Ich she had grown up I would have liked to see this or at least see her giving a sad farewell to her homeLastly there were a few spots in the Kindle version which is the version I read where something had gone wrong with the formatting causing whole sentences to be cut or blocked out making me have to guess what was going on in those missing spotsMy dear Amy I really did enjoy your book And I do recommend to others the reading of this bookAnd I think Amy stole a certain dress idea see green with white roses completely out of my brain without even realizing it Delightful That s how I d have to sum it up in one word This book has all that I look for in historical fiction while having none of the cheesy clich s the boring narrative the unrealistic characters or the shallow and overly descriptive romances I find so "OFTEN IN RECENT WORKS OF THAT GENRE INSTEAD THE "in recent works of that genre Instead the dance and sparkle the humor is exuisite the characters enjoyably true to life and most importantly you can really like and grow attached to them If some of them are geese from time to time they are lovable geese and that s what counts The setting 19th century England is my absolute favoriteAs a fan of classic literature and Jane Austen in particular I positively adored all the references and uotes sprinkled about Elizabeth s love of books is probably my favorite part of her character and she s so nice and Catherine Morland about it Some may think she overdoes it but I uite disagree I am annoyed by books where the heroine is supposedly a book lover but her favorite books are only referenced a few times and not very realistically If PP is Elizabeth s favorite book she s going to think about it a lot That s the way we are And I loved the authenticity of that Lavinia and Rodney are both swell characters I bow to their wonderful senses of humor and I also love Rodney s younger sister Mercy I should like to know what happens in her futureI should probably stop before I go on and on In short it is only a novel a work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature the happiest delineation of its varieties the liveliest effusions of wit and humour are conveyed to the world in the best chosen language Jane Austen Northanger AbbeyHighly recommended and I eagerly anticipate any future novels written by the brilliant Authoress Recommended for Ages 10 to Adult interest and reading levelRating GI hadn t heard much about this book before a friend lent it to me so I didn t really know what to expect I ended up really loving Only a Novel After I finished it I handed it over to my sister who read it *in a day she loved it toowriting 455only *a day She loved it tooWriting 455Only Novel was very well written It had a very old fashioned feel like that of the classics but thankfully without the rambling the classic authors were prone to do It had somewhat of a satirical tone and was full of delightful references to the works of Jane Austen Charles Dickens Charlotte Bronte and Lewis Carroll I probably would have enjoyed it if I had read of Jane Austen s works than Pride and Prejudice but I still enjoyed all the references In fact even though I am not much of a Jane Austen fan it made me curious to possibly try of her books in the future I only deducted half a point because there were some formatting errors in the book It was extremely well proof read but the text on opposite pages did not always begin and end at the same point on the page and she forgot to take the header off the first page of about half of the chapters Most people probably wouldn t notice but I tend to notice ust about all formatting errors Setting 55The setting is primarily in England in the early 1900s It seemed accurate to me and felt uite real Having always loved British literature I really enjoyed it I liked how it also was not primarily a high class setting but had plenty of servant life I ve always preferred the servants to the rich people in booksPlot 55Elizabeth Markette is convinced her life will be Women and Sustainable Agriculture: Interviews With 14 Agents of Change just like that of a novel but it is anything but that Real life isn t nearly as glamorous Being a governess isn t as wonderful as it seemed in Jane Eyre and why hasn t Mr Darcy shown up Elizabeth is forever trying to make her life like a novel but running into difficulties all along the way Still it has a happy ending which pleased me much There weren t any plot holes and it kept moving at a good pace throughout the whole book It was a very enjoyable storyCharacter Development 55All the characters were very well developed Every line of dialogue seemed to portray their various personalities Elizabeth kind of aggravated me for a while be her snobbishness towards servants but I was pleased at her character arc Lavinia was certainly an entertaining character Mercy was sweet and Rodney was funny Actually Rodney was my favorite character He liked to say ridiculous things to make people laugh which caused me to be constantly grinning while I read the book But Rodney was also kind and understanding I loved the characters and I was sad to say goodbye at the end of the book. Ravels from Philadelphia to London and secures aob as a governess serenely believing that her new position will be Crossing the color line in American politics and African American literature just like one of Jane Aus.
