Ently look forward to her next one Alice was looking forward to moving into a house in London with her boyfriend Leo Although reluctant to leave her lovely cosy cottage in a small country village Leo had been commuting to see her on the weekends for well over a year and it was time for them to be together The house was in a gated estate of twelve houses built around a circle with a Central Park and playground and Alice was looking forward to getting to know her neighbours Leo had bought the house at a very good price while Alice was on holiday and sent her photos of it but he neglected to tell her about something terrible that happened in the house to the previous ownersI really wanted to like this book than I did It starts well and I liked the setting of a closed community where people are keeping secrets However after the promising start it seemed to go around in circles with Alice trying to grill the neighbours and not really gaining any "new ground until close to the end The characters were all somewhat shadowy and we " ground until close to the end The characters were all somewhat shadowy and we t get to know any of them well with the exception of Alice The perpetrator seemed to be the one person Alice naively didn t suspect and I found the reason that this person was unknown to the rest of the community or the police somewhat implausible The novel did have it s creepy moments but unfortunately they weren t enough to rescue it for me 35 With thanks to Harleuin Australia and Netgalley for a copy to read 35 StarsOkay The heroine is too stupid to live Definitely one of the stupidest characters I ve come across in the mysterythriller genreThe story is far fetched the villain is obvious everyone is unlikable All in all a recipe for DNF And yet I was hookedI absolutely have no clue why Must be the setting Gated community secrets lies stalking nosy neighbors I ll never get tired of reading such stories I enjoyed it #Even I M Surprised #I m surprised much Me I am not buying any books I have enoughAlso Me Notices there is a new BA Paris releasing soon Another page turning psychological thriller from BA Paris who never disappoints me with her writingAlice and Leo move into a new house in The Circle and all theirs dreams appear to be fulfilled The circle consists of a community of exclusive houses and Alice is eager to meet her new neighbours but is disturbed when she discovers their home holds a terrible secret The previous owner Nina who was a therapist was murdered in the house and Alice soon becomes obsesses with finding out of what happened The neighbours appear to be less interested in raking over this terrible time and Alice starts to suspect secrets are being hidden and the real killer is still at largeI found this an exciting read and finished it almost in one sitting interesting characters and lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing For once I guessed right but had lots of fun getting to the answerI would like to thank both Netgalley and H for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. awnRounded up to 25The Circle A gated estate of twelve houses built around a garden suare Alice and Leo are new to number 6 and Alice is eager to fit in and make friends But her happiness is soon overshadowed when she discovers that the previous owner Therapist Nina Maxwell was murdered by her husband in her new home And the Alice learns about Nina s death the less convinced she is that the Therapist was indeed killed by her husband And in The Circle there are eyes everywhereIn all honesty I struggled to keep my eyes open for most of it Follow Alice s routine as she spends the first 70% going to the park meeting and socialising with neighbours chatting with old friends discussing living arrangements and even mundane working eating and sleeping The Therapist is 90% domestic drama 10% mysterysuspense There s little development to the thriller plot in the first #THREE UARTERS OF THE NOVEL AND WHAT THERE IS #uarters of the novel and what there is rehashed endlessly with multiple conversations repeating the same informationThe pace accelerated towards the end finally and included a couple of satisfying twists one red herring and some cleverly planted clues but it was too little too late I m afraidIf you enjoy reading about Alice s trust issues obsessive thoughts and behaviour and her mourning her country cottage and struggling to adjust to London life then you might relate to this There ust wasn t enough to hold my interest or move the plot forwardI m afraid this is where BA Paris and I part ways She started strong with Behind Closed Doors and The Break Down but has GONE STEADILY DOWNHILL SINCE I D
steadily downhill since I d to thank Netgalley H Australia and BA Paris for the e ARCUKAUSNZ Publication Date 7th January 2021US Publication Date 13th July 2021 I can breathe a little easier knowing that BA Paris has written a good mysterysuspense story in 2021 After two heartbreakingly painful duds she s back in the game everyone Without detailing too much of the synopsis Alice and her partner Leo buy a house in a gated community and uickly find out that an unspeakable crime has happened prior to their move As Alice begins to uestion the neighbors she uickly sees that the gated community is not what it seems Alternating between the perspective of Alice and this unnamed therapist the two point of views bridge the gap on a tragedy that will leave you speechless You have no idea how happy I am that BA Paris is back It s taken a couple of books but she s cemented herself back into the mystery and suspense genres for me I would say this is at the level of The Breakdown enjoyable where you still have to suspend a bit of reality and may end up catching onto the story earlier than expected but still a fun ride At times I was actually a bit frightened with the narrative which is an excellent way to keep my attention I hope that The Therapist is only the start to some excellent new books by BA Paris I really enjoy BA Paris books and was delighted to receive a copy of her new book The TherapistAlice and her.
